Certified Professional
A certified dance instructor is one who has been certified through a major franchised studio, such as, Arthur Murray or Fred Astaire. (These are well established studios who have been in business for over a half century.)

All certified instructors go through rigorous and extensive training and testing, which takes many years to complete. This certification process is done in all levels of dance, beginning with Social to Bronze (I, II, III, IV) Silver (I, II, III, IV) Gold (I, II, III, IV)

The applicant is tested by certified credentialed teachers and examiners at each level, on his ability to dance and teach both the man and the woman's dance patterns. These dance elements include lead, follow, universal technique, music count break-down, theory and finally troubleshooting problems.

Meet Mario
Mario's Beginnings
My dance career started at age 7 with ballet, I later joined the civic ballet club. During a practice sessions there I tore a hamstring muscle, from not warming up properly. My doctor prescribed rehabilitation and suggested two forms of low aerobic exercise. One was swimming the other was ballroom dancing. Since my doctor was a ballroom dancer he preferred that as my rehabilitation.

I saw Ballroom Dancing as a place where my grandparents would go. I thought that the music would be old and boring and that I wouldn't be accepted by the people. Bear in mind, I was only 11 years old at the time. So, instead I took swimming. I though that was where all the cool people hung out, kids my own age, lots of girls and no rules, or so I thought. I soon discovered I could live with the rules, but I could not live with the cold water. Needless to say, three short weeks later I took my first ballroom lesson.

I quickly discovered that people of all ages were there. They were dancing to current music as well as big band music. Plus there were a lot of girls. It was fun, exciting and a place where cool people hung out.

Lesson Plan
Are indivIdually tailored based on skill level and desired goals. This is determined during students initial lessons.

What Is A Dance Lesson?
Private Lessons:
Private lessons are an individual student or couple and their teacher. The lessons focuses your instructors attention on just you. It's one on one teaching so you can receive the individual help you need, to learn the various dance steps and to have your questions answered. You will work at your own pace on one or all the dances during your lesson. This is a must for all beginners.
Group Lessons:
A group lesson is one instructor and a group of people, singles and couples. Everyone will dance and change partners in intervals while learning the dance. This gives everyone a chance to dance and introduces you to other people who share your interest.

I've been Mario's student for over 12 years. Before I started ballroom dancing, I can remember always wanting to learn. As a kid I wanted to be Ginger Rogers dancing with Fred Astaire because I always saw them dancing on TV and they were exciting to watch.
What stopped me was, I thought I needed a partner so I never attempted to learn. Then a good friend of mine persuaded me to start. She said that I didn't need a partner because there would be plenty of people to dance with. She also recommended Mario as my instructor and said he was a great teacher. She was right about both things.
12 years may seem like a long time to be a student, but the wonderful thing about ballroom dancing is, the more you dance... the more you want to dance and improve your skills. Mario has ended up being the best instructor I could imagine. He's not only great with beginners because of his non-intimidating style (I know, it's where I started with him), he also has advance knowledge in dance which continues to build up his students.

I started ballroom dancing approximately 10 years ago. I was the typical "two left feet" student. I had never taken any dance lessons before. All of a sudden I found myself at a dance studio taking lessons. I soon realized that I could do this thing -- there were organized steps and patterns to each dance to learn and after a few lessons I was dancing with other students (beginners to more advanced).
I was thrilled. Since I am a teacher myself (piano) I know about teaching and Mario's style of instructing was exactly the kind of teaching I enjoyed. He seems to understand his students and knows what we all want from our dancing.
